Why the Paso del Norte Region

Angel investment can serve as the catalyst for economic diversity and growth in our region, especially when coordinated by a group like SCA. An organized group of angel investors can harness tens of millions of dollars in investment power. It can shape the development of the leading companies and emerging sectors in our region and link Paso del Norte to other centers of technological innovation around the world.

Located at an international gateway and the intersection of the major cultural and economic exchange routes of the Americas, Paso del Norte offers a highly-skilled bilingual labor force and a growth environment for entrepreneurship across a number of sectors, including healthcare and health-tech, energy, logistics, aerospace, and the computational sciences, particularly artificial intelligence, and machine learning (AI/ML).

Working through SCA, angel investors and mentors can channel the knowledge, experience, and investment capacity needed to amplify our region’s entrepreneurial promise across multiple science-driven and technology-intensive sectors. Together, we can establish our region as an engine of economic growth and global hub for innovation.

SCA aims to provide the necessary resources and introductions to capital for the development of local talent and start-ups, which includes education, mentoring, and access to a larger network of angel groups.

The Vision of SunCruces Angels is to play an active role in the transformation of the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem through its advocacy, members and programs.

Our History

SunCruces Angels was founded in 2021 by a group of local investors and community leaders who believe that early stage investments in local startups can spur economic growth in the region. The angel investors at SCA have copious amounts of experience in a variety of different industries and offer their time and mentorship, in addition to capital, to local entrepreneurs to keep the culture of entrepreneurship thriving in the region.

SCA was created out of necessity. Local investors realized that it was not only taking far too long for entrepreneurs in the region to connect with investors, but that there were also numerous obstacles and impediments preventing burgeoning entrepreneurs from receiving guidance and feedback for basic queries such as whether they had a viable business idea. Instead of ignoring these issues, local angel investors sought to become part of the solution by launching a mechanism for entrepreneurs to seek both funding and mentorship as they look to establish their businesses. Thus, the SunCruces Angels investment group was born.
